To Whom It May Concern:
I am updating my review to reflect on my complete experience with Star Movers.
During my move, multiple pieces of my furniture were damaged while in their care and several items are now missing. I immediately notified the company and provided clear photographs of the damage and a description of the missing items. The owner personally contacted me and assured me through text messages that he would take care of the damaged items and assured me everything would be properly repaired. Based on those direct assurances, I trusted that the company would stand behind their service.
Initially, communication was responsive, and it appeared they were working toward a resolution. Unfortunately, communication eventually stopped entirely, and the damaged furniture has still not been repaired or otherwise resolved and there is no response regarding the missing items. Despite the owner’s personal promises to make this right, there has been no follow-through. It seems Star Movers does not need to respond to their claims unless I take legal action.
This has been a very disappointing and frustrating experience. Damage can happen during a move, but a company’s integrity is measured by how they respond and honor their commitments. In this case, the promises made to resolve the situation were not kept.
We used Star Movers several times to move items around in our home in Williamsburg, VA. I was always pleased. This time it was a long-distance move. I would not recommend using this company as it seems they are unable to pack furniture properly to avoid damage and they do not honor claims for damage.

Star Movers worked with me while I was in Massachusetts and trying to arrange a move in Williamsburg. Mo matter which weekend I picked, snow storms make it impossible for me to make travel arrangements. Star Movers made at least 4 changes to pick up dates on just a days notice. The crew was great They handled everything carefully and made the move so easy. I highly recommend Star Movers.

I Would Give 0 If Possible

I cannot put into words how unbelievably negative my experience was with STAR Movers Williamsburg. I chose this company because of their 4.9-star rating and glowing reviews, but my move quickly became the worst service experience I’ve ever had.

The General Manager, Kevin, came to my home, reassured my wife and me repeatedly that our small 2-bedroom townhome move would be “easy” and completed in 4–6 hours. He even joked about how much faster his crew was compared to major national moving companies. That charm disappeared instantly on move day.

Our move was scheduled to start at 9:00 AM. The crew arrived at 10:00 AM—and then spent ANOTHER hour standing outside before even touching a single item. One of the three movers quit on the spot. We later learned they showed up with no boxes, no packing paper, and no bubble wrap. A moving company… without boxes. We were told Kevin would “bring them later,” so the two remaining movers wrapped what they could in blankets and plastic until they literally ran out of things they could do.

Kevin finally appeared with supplies at 2:30 PM, more than five hours after the scheduled start. By this point, barely anything had been packed. As the day dragged on, the disorganization got worse: excessive standing around, little coordination, and no leadership. At 5 PM two more people arrived—including their office manager, who seemed to be the only one actively packing the kitchen. Again: a moving company where one office employee was doing more work than the entire crew.

By 9 PM they had run out of boxes again. Despite Kevin doing an in-home estimate, they still failed to bring enough packing materials. This meant items like lamps, speakers, toiletries, and more were left behind—items they should have been able to move. At this point, we just wanted the day to end.

They finally loaded the truck around 10 PM, drove the 2.5 miles to our new place, and during unloading informed us they had broken a side table.

We reached 12 hours of work (14 including their promised start time)—and the move STILL wasn’t finished. Then, unbelievably, they attempted to charge me the full amount on the spot. I refused until speaking with Kevin. On a long phone call with him and the owner, both acknowledged the disaster and said they would work on a solution and send movers the following day to finish what they failed to do.

But here’s the part that pushed this experience into unethical territory:
I woke up the next morning to a notification that STAR Movers charged my card anyway—without my permission and despite a clear agreement that payment would be revisited.

This company wasted my entire day, turned a simple local move into a 14-hour nightmare, failed to bring basic supplies, lost manpower mid-job, left belongings behind, broke furniture, demonstrated terrible leadership, and then charged me without authorization.

Kevin sold us a dream but delivered a nightmare. His leadership was nonexistent—he dropped off boxes, disappeared, and left a chaotic, understaffed team with no plan. He might as well be a snake-oil salesman based on how drastically the reality contrasted with what he promised.

I took PTO, lost an entire day, barely slept, and still had an unfinished move. This experience was disrespectful of my time, my home, and my money.

I strongly urge anyone reading this: choose ANY other moving company. STAR Movers Williamsburg does not deserve another cent of business.

UPDATE: After posting this review and speaking further with the owner, he refunded the full amount of the move and offered to send a properly supervised team to complete the remaining items. I appreciate his willingness to take responsibility and address the situation, but the experience described above reflects what occurred on the day of the move.
